The Lesson Plan

Name: Bible Study

Materials Needed: King James Bible

Objective: Students will learn to look at the King James Bible more objectively

Make sure all students have a copy of the bible or at least enough bibles to share and look on with one another.

Next, explain to the students that every one’s beliefs are perfectly O.K., but remember, if you want someone to respect your beliefs, you must respect other’s others’ beliefs as well.

Instructor: “Good evening class and welcome to bible study. Does every one have a bible, or one you can look on with?” (Gives class a moment to settle down)

Explains to the students that, “The bible, though a wonderful piece of literature, in the instructor’’’’’’’’’’’’’’s opinion, it is not to be taken literally, but rather used as a guide.”

Instructor: May I see a show of hands?

How many students attend church regularly?

How many of you would say you know scripture?

How many people have read the whole bible?

O.K.: discuss class ratio, conversation will be based on hands raised, limit to one to two minutes

Next: ask class to describe the way Jesus is most commonly displayed; ask class’s opinion of matter.

Ask the class to turn to: Daniel 10:6 then Daniel 7:9

Daniel 7:9

I beheld till the thrones were cast down and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head was like the pure wool

Daniel 10:6

His body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in color to polished brass

Ask students if the pictures in their churches are the same as the description in the bible.

If not, ask why not and why they think it is the way it is.

Ask if anyone in the room if they know someone with a gold cross or  “Jesus Piece” * (*urban slang for a gold chain with a golden Jesus face on it, with diamonds, it is referred to as an iced out Jesus Piece)

Explain to that class that if one of them, or someone they know possesses such a thing, I want to refer them to Exodus 20:23

Ye Shall not make with me gods of silver, neither shall ye make unto you gods of gold.

Next ask if anyone in the class owns any Hebrew slaves. If the answer is no, Congratulate the class and explain to them that they should be sure to find out before their next slave purchase whether or not the person is Hebrew because according to

Exodus 21: 2

If thou buy a Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing.

Also, according to the next verse,

Exodus 21: 3

If he came by himself, he shall go out by himself

But, in Exodus 21: 4 it says:

If his master have given him a wife, and she born him sons or daughters; the wife

and her children shall be her master’s and he (the servant) shall go out by himself.

So, owning a Hebrew ain’t all bad if you can get him to breed, for you will own his offspring.  And  these guys get preferential treatment.  If you are NOT a Hebrew, I do not envy you!

Now, if you find yourself on hard times and need money, according to Exodus 21:7

You could sell your daughter.

In Exodus 21:7

If a man sells his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out as the menservants do.

But, you may never see her again, because if she is not pleasing to her master according to Exodus 21:8,

If she please not her master, who hath betrothed her to himself, then shall he let her be redeemed: to sell her unto a strange nation he shall have no power, seeing he hath dealt deceitfully with her.

Now be careful. In the event that it was your favorite sister who was sold, you’d better keep your mouth shut because according to

Exodus 21: 17

He that curseth his father, or his mother, shall surely be put to death.

Instructor: Again, may I see a show of hands? How many of you work on the Sabbath?

(Pause until hands are raised or not) Then insert: Work includes cooking. Because according to

Exodus 35: 2

Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a Sabbath of rest to the Lord: whosoever doeth work therein shall be put to death

And in the next verse

Exodus 35: 3, it says

Ye shall kindle no fire throughout your habitations upon the Sabbath day.

Instructor: Ladies, a show of hands please? How many of you are able to take off seven days a month, from both work and home chores? Because according to

Leviticus 15: 19, you should be able to.

It says: And if a woman have an issue, and her issue in her flesh be blood, she shall be put apart seven days: and whosoever toucheth her shall be unclean until the even.

Instructor: May I see a show of hands please? Does anybody here, know anyone who is too ugly to go to church? (Wait for hands to show or not) Well perhaps you don’t know the definition of ugly.  Let me enlighten you. According to

Leviticus 21: 16

And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying

Leviticus 21:17

Speak unto Aaron, saying, whosoever he be of thy seed in their generations that hath any blemish, let him not approach to offer the bread of his God.

Leviticus 21: 18

For whatsoever man he be that hath a blemish, he shall not approach: a blind man, or a lame, or he that hath a flat nose, or any thing superfluous,

Leviticus 21: 19

Or a man that is broken footed, or broken handed

Leviticus 21:20

Or crookbackt, or a dwarf, or that hath a blemish in his eye, or be scurvy, or scabbed, or hath his stones broken.

Ask for class interpretation of this scripture, to be fair.

Next,

Instructor: Is anyone in the class wearing more than one fabric?  Because According to

Leviticus 19: 19

Thou shall not sow thy field with mingled seed: neither shall a garment mingled of linen and woolen come upon thee.

Then ask,

Instructor: May I see a show of hands, how many people here are parents? How many have sons? How many have daughters? After poll is taken, ask if the male births were any different than the female births. After brief discussion, allude to

 Leviticus 12: 2

If a woman have conceived seed and born a man-child: then she shall be unclean seven days.

But according to

Leviticus 12:5

if she bear a maid child, then she shall be unclean two weeks

Instructor: Finally, I think the most important lesson I found in the bible was in the book of Revelations

In Revelations 22:11, it says:

He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy let him be holy still.

Which means in my opinion, mind your own business. Don’t be concerned with the doings, or beliefs of others.

Just let Be.
